Alien Contact
This is an RP that I got in my mind for some time, and I decided to put it in place on this forum. This is significantly related to other alien works such as XCOM.
The main structure of the RP is that aliens will start visiting Earth. The humans would be worried about the alien "intrusion" because of their activities when the first alien reports swarm in, such as animal abductions and construction of [then-]unknown structures. As alien activities worsen (e.g. armed retaliation), human participants have several choices: attempt UFO shootdown or capture, attack any aliens that could be attacked, negotiate with them, it is up to humans to decide the best course of actions for their nations. I believe this would be a large RP because it could include a variety of aspects in many fields (e.g. location of battle, alien research aspects).
What can be Done?
Attack Stages
If a human nation decides to attack aliens, it would engage the UFOs while in air (air combat), after it landed (terrestrial combat), or after it crashlanded on the sea (sea combat). Several pages after the start (or in RPs after this one), new technologies would have been acquired and humans can engage aliens in underwater combat, subterranean combat, space combat, or even combat on other planets. A mission right on the homeworld of an alien species is very well possible if appropriate steps had been taken, though it could be very far away from the RP's start. Human nations can either declare war on the aliens or on other human nations.
Research Stages
If a human nation decides to research on the aliens, it is recommended that they build or use hidden facilities for such purposes. The people behind the research would not want a lot of attention on their activities (and therefore catch alien attention), but at the same time they might want to secretly gather some help from the public. Research starts when an alien object (say a corpse) is captured and scientists are allocated to research it. In research projects, I would authorize researching participants to come up with any reasonable discoveries or new findings that might be obtained from their object. For example, Participant A might RP the discovery of Element 1337 from a captured alien craft. Participants should make sure that their results are reasonable (e.g. the discovery won't lead straight to teleportation devices) unless a bunch of related discoveries had already existed before. Participants are always welcome to team up and research on a common object.
Negotiations
If a human nation decides to negotiate with the aliens, it is allowed to do so. During the negotiation process, humans can strike a deal with the aliens (e.g. sharing technologies) or they can launch a surprise attack on the aliens while negotiating. However, when a participant wants to use a surprise attack, it is appreciated if he or she had revealed hints that suggests such an attack will occur. The humans can capture an alien for research if they want. Also, if the aliens survive and escape the surprise attack, they can inform their affiliates and future negotiations would be terminated.
Even though very advanced aliens can foretell surprise attacks, it's better if they aren't able to determine that a surprise attack would be coming (it'll ruin the fun). They can be prepared to a light degree (e.g. concealing a pistol).
Sides
Human Nations
Here are the abilities of humans:
- attempt cyberattacks on alien networks; methods include hacking, release of viruses, etc.
- research and gather reasonable breakthroughs
- attack aliens; humans can capture corpses or live (stunned) aliens, and obtain any alien crafts and resources
- infiltrate aliens; an alien base must be located (the first base assault should be on the human planet) before infiltration; infiltration can cut alien access to base and yield important information
- interrogate aliens; humans can communicate with them and do anything, including persuading them to join on the human side; be warned, however, as aliens can release false information or even betray the humans
- attack other human nations
- if enough technologies have been researched and possessed, humans can engage aliens in other battlefields (e.g. underwater)
Aliens
Here are the abilities of aliens:
- abduct animals and humans for research
- construct alien bases on or close to Earth (e.g. moon, Mars, Jovian moons)
- infiltrate humans; some alien agents will be dispatched to convince humans that they will help them to fight the alien menace; the agents can steal human info and transmit them to the aliens
- terrorize cities; this is not always the main course of alien actions, but can be particularly effective at undermining trust for the government and armed forces if not properly dealt with
Others
Rules
Here are some rules that people should follow in order for the RP to be as fun as possible.
- No godmodding. Some godmodding types that can be concerning in the RP include:
-- Number wanking - the number of units you have or the number of resources you claim to gather from crafts (or etc.) should not be extreme
-- Progress wanking - research should not go too fast
-- Declaring results - when attacking the humans or aliens, let the receiver(s) of an attack determine their reasonable losses
-- Unleashing WMDs - human and alien WMDs alike should not be used, although humans/aliens can threaten to use them
- Limit is two nations; one participant can control two countries at the same time
- Real nations only please; that means no POD {>} or Rodrania; you'll have to do some research on the human nation(s) you want to roleplay with
- Nations with controlled information means that they control the press and have the power prevent any sensitive info from leaking out; this can give them advantages over countries with free information, so aliens can target press-controlling nations more easily (they aren't subject to too much international scrutiny and retaliation)
- Nations with more power means they have more influence over other countries and more capability to build their armed forces and research; however, the more power a country has, the more easily it loses it when subject to improper actions against aliens; more powerful nations may also have more corruption and government inefficiency, meaning the ability to carry out plans such as research can be hindered if those weaknesses are exploited by aliens
- Have fun!
Questions and Constructive Criticisms
This RP is going to be large, if not one of the largest that I lead, so any questions and constructive criticisms are appreciated. At this time, the RP is scarce of info so updates would be made.
Application
At this time, applications for human nations will be accepted. Applications for aliens, however, won't be open as I will be controlling the aliens for the time being. Heck, no one other than me controls the aliens!
Anyways, if some of the info cannot be found (e.g. numbers of scientists), then you are free to make up these statistics so long as they are mostly realistic. Countries can have two goals, all three of them, or something else.
